Ed Clarke, Chairman
Ed Clarke started his work in noise and vibration at IBM UK Ltd., who sponsored his acoustics degree at ISVR.  His work on disk drive noise and vibration also involved investigations into transit shock damage throughout a global distribution network.

In 1992 he moved into consultancy at Hann Tucker Associates in Woking, gaining valuable experience in a commercial consulting practice. Ed then joined Alan Saunders, a previous chairman of the ANC, who had recently established his own consultancy and was operating as a sole trader.

Alan Saunders Associates has grown dramatically since, and Ed has been Technical Director since its transition to a limited company. Ed takes an active role in IOA and ANC meetings and working groups. Specifically, he was involved in establishing the ANC Registration Scheme for pre-completion sound insulation testing, and chaired its first standing committee.

Peter Hepworth, Immediate Past Chairman
Peter started his career working in the noise section of two local authorities in the north of England. He worked in the local authorities for six years before moving into consultancy. In 1985, he joined WS Atkins, and spent five years with the company. The first three years were spent at the head office in Epsom, before moving to Warrington to develop a noise capability for the company in the north of England.

In 1990, Peter set up Hepworth Acoustics, originally working alone, but now managing 15 employees. The company specialises in environmental noise and building acoustics. Peter has had extensive experience of transportation noise and noise transmission from leisure developments. This work has involved giving evidence at many public inquiries, council meetings and court hearings.

He has been a member of the Institute of Acoustics Working Party on Noise from Pubs and Clubs and has presented a number of papers at Institute of Acoustics conferences.
